Aged 11 I knew I would one day write a book…!
I thought I would share a little about the story behind my gift books.
Aged 11 I had no idea what they might look like or indeed what it might be about.
It was many years later that I found myself with a story that I felt I must write down. I began the task of writing and put pen to paper. I am like Joanna Trollope who has written many best sellers in that I write long hand with a black bic pen. I like the sound of the pen on the page and the flow of the ink as the words flow.
Eventually it all comes together and so far both my published gift books are a mix of non-fiction with a fictional story embedded into a chapter.
My 3rd gift book, like the other two is pretty much taking me 3 years to complete. I hear of other authors who bring book after book out year after year but we also have to go with the way our creativity takes us and what time we have.

What word would you use to describe 2024…
These were some of the words the beautiful people that attended yesterdays bereavement cafe came up with:
AWFUL, SURREAL, PERSEVERANCE, PROGRESS.
I got each of them to discuss this with the person sitting next to them and then what word describes how they anticipate the coming 2025 to be.
Again the room was full of chatter. People listening and talking to each other in equal measure. Men, women and children.
Such a privilege to be creating the safe haven for them to feel supported cared for and loved at one of the most difficult times in their life.
And we of course had lots of cake! 🍰☕️Thanks again to @frostsgardencentres and @tescofood for enabling the cafe to run without any cost to those attending. Providing no financial barrier for anyone.

Are you blossoming?
Exactly this time last year I wasn’t in a good place. I was VERY fortunate to have a husband who made me pick the phone up and speak to my doctors.
They got me in the same day and it transpired that my bad mental and physical state was being caused by the menopause.
I was amazed that my own body was transpiring against me. Starting to shut down. The tears wouldn’t stop😢
Fast forward to one year later and like the cyclamen that was gifted to me during this year by a wonderful soul who I met at a menopause group I attended a couple of times, I’m not just surviving but genuinely beginning to thrive and blossom.
With the right support we CAN overcome so much and I am so glad I am now feeling fit and healthy mentally and physically. I am able to do my job AND live life in equal measure and it feels good.

Our 🎄Christmas🎄 🌸grief garden path cafe🌸
It’s hard to put into words the atmosphere created by 40 + amazing men and women who show up sometimes just once and others month in month out @frostsgardencentres after their own painful bereavement.
I read a poem shared by Laura and got everyone thinking about how they can bring their loved ones into the celebrations of Christmas.
Grief after the loss of someone we Love isn’t just for Christmas, it is year round and it’s our goal to continue to provide this beautiful space to anyone that needs it into 2025.
The next cafe will be 10th Jan 2025 – the ‘frosts’ kettle will be on and cake ready to be munched.

⭐️Shine a light⭐️
On the last day of National grief awareness week I attended the first 🧡Shine a light🧡 event @afcb
Since @lindamagistris started the national charity @thegoodgrieftrust I have remained a staunch supporter of her mission to ensure no one suffers alone when someone we love dies.
I have watched it grow. It’s highs and lows.
The death of someone we love is one of the single most difficult things we ever have to face as a human being and yesterday’s event championed people who have suffered personally and those who work in the field of bereavement. #togetherwearestronger
The room was filled with a combined passion for making the bereavement space less lonely and more cohesive.
The highlight for me personally was meeting Jayne face to face for the very first time. We met in an online support group for young widows when our husbands died 12 years ago. Our smiles say it all.
The support is out there. Don’t suffer alone x🌻🧡

Christmas past and present..
As we reach the end of National grief awareness week 2024 I have found myself reflecting on why @thegoodgrieftrust started it so near to Christmas.
It’s because when someone dies that we love a journey of painful grief begins and it’s at times like Christmas that our memories of them are often amplified and the pain increases.
I look back at the past 16 years and how we can now fully enjoy this time of year looking back with smiles at the memories rather than tears and excruciating pain. It has taken a long time to reach this point and I am looking forward to our 6th in our grade 2 listed thatch cottage with the family and especially our grand-babies Roman (3) and Mila (7 months).

Did you know it’s National Grief Awareness Week?
On the first day I found myself in a beautiful church in the middle of central London wearing my @thegoodgrieftrust umbrella bracelet.
The church was St Paul’s in Knightsbridge for the Hospice UK annual Carol service.
We were reminded of the tireless work going on right now in the 200 hospices across the UK.
I still get that sense of awe when I go OUT in an evening surrounded by people because when my husband was dying over a 4 year period of time like many in hospices right now ‘real life’ evades us. It goes on as if nothing is happening.
End of life is a great privilege to witness but the grief that can follow can be so excruciatingly painful.
I guess I am proof recovery is possible. That it’s possible to taste life again on trips like tonight and be mesmerised by the twinkling lights of Christmas. after devastating loss.
My thoughts today go to anyone that is about to embark on their 🌸Grief garden path🌸 after fighting a battle with someone they love and adore x🌻🧡

Our little miracle dog Ben!
Last Christmas we were preparing ourselves to spend a last Christmas and New year with Ben.
He had survived major surgery to remove two separate tumours in the July. He had done well however in his check up in October secondary lung cancer was detected. The vet had given him a few short months to live.
We booked to take him to chase balls on his favourite beach in Dorset and our daughter gave us a portrait of him for Christmas.
The miracle is that we are about to celebrate Christmas because he is still here. We are so grateful for each day with him.

Have you ever heard of a bereavement cafe?
Support is so important when life changes forever at the end of life.
I thought I would share a little reflection of Monday’s bereavement cafe in Liverpool with the Swan team.
Maria and Lisa form part of the team in the Liverpool NHS trust where the end of life Swan model of care was pioneered.
Each life they touch, each family they support during tough times brings support that can’t be put into words.
I felt part of that team on Monday as we each tended to the broken souls grieving the loss of their loved ones.
Afterwards we reflected and shared our own personal and powerful stories of grief and loss. We laughed and cried together.
What an honour to have been asked to join them and to continue to have my ‘💦watering YOU’ 💦 postcard gifted to everyone they deliver a pack too after a life ends.

Today marks one week until National Grief Awareness Week 2024!

Do you know about ‘the ever after garden?’
What a beautiful experience that was with my youngest daughter @pollyjoness – we went initially when it was light and then when it had gone dark. The difference was so different – it gives this powerful feeling of calm and light. Something that is often dimmed when our loved ones initially die.
We remembered Polly’s dad Richard and step dad Rob.

The Ever After Garden is a tranquil haven where everyone everywhere can remember treasured friends and family they have lost.
Over the festive season each year, Grosvenor Square in the heart of Mayfair is lit up with over 30,000 illuminated white roses.
You are invited to dedicate a rose in memory of a loved one, whilst making a donation in support of @royalmarsden Cancer Charity.
The Ever After Garden 2024 is now open until 18th December. Dedications can be made online until 9am on 17th December, any dedications received online after this time will be included in the 2025 Ever After Garden. Dedicate a rose online today 🌹
