Caring for someone with a chronic illness can be an overwhelming experience that affects not only your physical health but also your emotional and psychological well-being. Being a carer can prompt a range of feelings including grief, frustration, and helplessness, with the constant stress and anxiety exacerbating the symptoms.

Does any of this sound familiar?

  • The continual responsibility of caring for your loved one makes you stressed and anxious
  • The emotional burden of and the witnessing their suffering leaves you frequently feeling depressed
  • You often feel guilty that you’re not doing enough for them, or you feel resentment that your life is sometimes effectively “on hold” while you tend to their needs
  • You have a profound sense of grief over the gradual loss of your loved one’s abilities or health

The demands of a carer for someone with a chronic illness

The physical demands of caregiving makes you feel exhausted, meaning you often neglect your own health needs, leading to issues such as poor nutrition, lack of exercise, and insufficient sleep. You may also sometimes feel socially isolated, with less time to maintain your own relationships or participate in social activities.

Welcome to my Personal Recovery Coaching programme, designed to help you navigate the complexities of caring for a loved one, and offering a safe space to process your emotions, learn a few coping strategies, and receive emotional and practical support.

Your wellbeing

I understand the impact that caring for someone with a chronic illness can have on your emotional wellbeing.

My beloved husband Rob was incredibly ill for 4 years before his last battle that ended in November 2012. I didn’t recognise how much I had stepped into a caring role until he actually died.

My role now is to help you understand what is happening, and how you can remain YOU during this challenging time.

I was a nurse in the NHS for 20 years, caring for patients and their relatives at times of great sadness and trauma, so I know what it’s like to watch from the side-lines as the person you love suffers. I’m here to provide you with the support, tools, and guidance you need to navigate this difficult time and emerge stronger than ever before.
